WHAT IS QIGONG AT LIGHTSPACE?
Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is an internal martial art considered to be a form of moving meditation. Its translation means “life energy cultivation.”
At LightSpace we practice Qigong in several ways: (1) Through a series of movements called Gift of the Tao. Some observers think these movements look like Tai Chi and, though the two practices are related, Gift of the Tao Qigong movements are quite different and much more energetically powerful. (2) We combine the energetic principles of Qigong into our Pilates movements which we call QI-LATES (qigong + pilates). You can experience this in both our private sessions and classes. (3) We offer clients the therapeutic art of Clinical Qigong, which includes off-body and on-body techniques for improved health and wellness, pain management, and increased energy or “Qi” flow.
Among its many benefits, the practice of Qigong in these forms can not only increase one’s Qi, but also provide relief from stress and anxiety, physical tension, and greatly enhance and balance the body’s immune system. We love Qigong because it helps cultivate a deeper internal awareness and calm, which enhances our daily lives in so many ways.
Why do we combine Qigong and Pilates?
Pilates and Qigong complement each other. Qigong movements and meditation help release superficial physical tension and pain that create imbalances in posture and alignment, often leading to injury. Once this tension is released, it is much easier to “tune in” to the body in order to find optimal alignment and locate and activate the deeper core muscles of the abdominal wrap. These muscles are particularly difficult to access, but provide stability, support, flexibility, as well as optimal posture and alignment for more efficient movement patterns. The result? A unique and rejuvenating workout for the physical body, combined with a stronger and more balanced energetic body – all without the high-impact stress on the body or mind. And the amazing feeling of having meditated for an hour!
THE THERAPEUTIC ART OF CLINICAL QIGONG
Injury and illness cause pain and dysfunction to our physical body as well as damage to our energy body, or Qi. Focusing solely on the physical body without addressing the energy body can lead to an incomplete recovery that can be difficult and frustrating! Incorporating Clinical Qigong healing treatments into your recovery plan can maximize the benefits of the physical exercises and movements (Pilates, physical therapy, etc.), as well as speed up the healing process.
At LightSpace we offer Clinical Qigong treatments to restore BOTH the physical and energetic body, as well as overall health and wellness, and increased energy or Qi flow. Also known as Taoist Neuro-Energetic Therapeutics, Clinical Qigong, is the therapeutic art of Qi manipulation. Clinical Qigong uses the same points and channels used in Acupuncture, but without the use of needles. Practitioners instead cultivate and utilize their own developed Qi to address the entire neuro-energetic system, correcting energetic imbalances found in the body. It includes both on and off body techniques that restore balance, or homeostasis to the recipient. Techniques include a very light touch along the nerve synapses of the spine, and/or Qi projection (called “Wei Qi Liao Fa” – Healing with External Energy).
At LightSpace, Clinical Qigong Treatments take place on a massage table, in a private room with clients fully clothed.
QIGONG MOVEMENT CLASSES
Participants are taught a series of Qigong movements called Gift of the Tao. These movements were developed over a 15 year period by Qigong Master Michael Lomax and are reflections of High Level energy patterns as seen on the higher vibratory planes of existence. These movements are designed to physically and energetically open the energy gates of the body and raise a student’s energy body vibration. Students should wear comfortable clothing. Sneakers are recommended but not required.
Classes meet several times weekly. The full schedule, as well as links to book your spot, can be found below.
Available by appointment only
**Please note: at least 3-5 treatment sessions are recommended for proper restoration of Qi flow and balance in one’s body.
